6 Black Beauty%u201cLook, Mom!%u201d I said, %u201cThe sun is shining, and the grass looks so tasty. I want to run and play in the fields today!%u201dMy mom, Duchess, smiled and replied, %u201cOh, my dear, the fields are wonderful places to spend time with your friends. But remember to be safe, watch out for your friends, eat well and not bite or kick.%u201dAs I nibbled on the delicious grass, I asked my mother, %u201cMom, why are we so lucky to live on this beautiful farm?%u201dMy mother explained, %u201cWe are lucky because we have a great family who takes care of us, my dear. They treat us well.%u201dI had a happy childhood. I loved to play in the fields, and my mom was always nearby. As I grew, I learned new things. My mother started to work. When she came back from work, I always greeted and told her about my day and my new friends. We shared our stories and enjoyed our time together.%u201cI%u2019m so glad when you%u2019re happy. But it%u2019s important to know that you%u2019re special and not like the other young horses here. They%u2019ll become farm horses. They are also good horses, but we are different. When you grow up, you%u2019ll learn to carry people on your back or pull carriages for them,%u201d explained my mother.I wondered, %u201cIs that what you do, mother? Do you work for our master in that way?%u201d%u201cYes,%u201d replied my mother. %u201cHe sometimes rides me and other times, I pull his carriage. Remember to be happy when you work and don%u2019t bite or kick. Then people will be nice to you. My master is kind to me because I am kind to him, too. As I grew up, my coat became shiny. It was mostly black, but I had one white foot, a white star on my forehead and a small white spot on my back. When I became a big horse, Mr. Gordon came to see me. He looked at my eyes, mouth, and legs.bitenibbletreatnearbygreetcarriageto seize, grasp or tear (something) with the teeth or jaws. to eat something by taking very small bites or to bite something gently.to behave in a particular way towards somebody.not far away.to say hello to somebody.a vehicle with wheels that is pulled by a horse.::::::Glossarygrow upcoatto become older or an adultthe fur that covers an animal%u2019s body::
